#3832 The Ultimate Scratching Post by SmartCat®
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
- 32″ height allows cats to stretch fully and tone muscles
- Sturdy 16″ x 16″ base eliminates tipping and wobbling
- Fibrous and durable woven sisal naturally encourages scratching
- Superior to carpeted posts that may snag claws
- Includes screws and dowels for easy base assembly. Base comes in two parts for shipping.
WHY DO CATS SCRATCH?
- To remove old nail sheaths from claws
- To exercise and tone muscles
- To relieve stress, frustration, and boredom
- To “warm up” for a vigorous play session
- To mark territory
SMARTCAT® TRAINING TIPS
- Place the post where the cat spends a lot of time. Cats often like to stretch and scratch when they wake up from a nap.
- To introduce the post, try using catnip as a lure. (For most cats this is unnecessary, but fun.) Rub catnip onto the sisal material and call the cat over to the post.
- Scratch your nails along the surface of the material. This will attract the cat and also teach where to scratch.
- After your cat begins to scratch, offer praise and a food treat. Small kittens can be trained to climb the post by showing them food treats and then placing them at the top of the post.
- If your cat has been scratching a piece of furniture, place the post directly in front of it. Cover that area with Sticky Paws™ (click here to order) or use double-sided tape. This will help redirect your cat’s scratching activities to the post. Shower lots of praise on your cat when you see them using the Ultimate Scratching Post to reinforce this positive behavior.

#3854 Ultimate Litterbox-Not Available on Pioneerpet.com
Features and Benefits
- New modern shape compliments any decor
- Large, over-sized rim for easy handling
- New ramped sides for handy litter removal
Litter box Solutions:
Fortunately, cats don’t need much training when it comes to the litter box. It is instinctual for them to seek out an easily raked substrate in which to eliminate. A roomy litter box with high sides (to keep the litter from flying out) and a good litter scoop is all you need to keep your tiger coming back. Keep in mind the following feline preferences regarding litter box maintenance:
- Cats do not like scented litter.
- Cats like a clean litter box.
- There should be one litter box per cat in the family, plus one.
For more information about cat behavior see www.catsinternational.org.
SmartCat™ Tips:
- Provide litter that appeals to your cat. After all, your cat must want to use its litterbox.
- To each it’s own… litterbox, that is. One box per cat in the household. Also, supply an extra box for those unforeseen emergency instances that may arise – they always do.
- Place each litterbox in a quiet, private place easily accessible to your cat.
- Keep in mind that litterbox liners may be irritating to some cats.
- Confine kittens and new cats to one room until they have used their litterbox consistently for several days. Give them proper time to learn and adapt.
- Clean them daily… the litterboxes, not your cats. We do that on our own.
- Have your cat spayed or neutered at or before six months of age to prevent it from marking its territory.
